Shark Pups is our junior swim team for 4-8 year olds!  The Shark Pups team provides an introduction to summer swim team in a smaller more instructional and less competitive environment.  Swimmers will be introduced to competition strokes and other important swim team skills. The goal of our junior team is to get swimmers ready for our Cool Sharks Swim Team. Shark Pups swimmers will not be allowed to move up to the Cool Sharks mid-season, however all Shark Pups will be encouraged to join the Cool Sharks Fall Team this August or the Summer Team next year if they are ready!

Each session consists of four 30-minute practices, either one week (Mon-Thurs) or two weekends (Sat-Sun).  You may register for multiple sessions, but only one time group per session per swimmer. There will be a maximum of 8 swimmers per group, divided by ability into two smaller groups of 4, each with a coach. We are tentatively planning to conclude the season with a Mini Meet – a fun opportunity for our Shark Pups to show off their new skills, learn about racing, and enjoy a little friendly competition.

Practices will take place in the shallow end of the pool. More advanced swimmers will be in the middle section, less advanced swimmers on the steps/shallowest section.

In this COVID season, we are trying to limit hands-on instruction, so the focus will be on children who already have some swimming skills but aren't quite ready for swim team, especially those who have experienced a swimming "learning gap" after missing an entire summer of swimming and lessons last year.  All swimmers must have a basic comfort level in the water be unafraid to put their face in the water. They should have a basic ability to float and move through the water independently, and be ready to swim with noodles and kickboards.  This is not a program for absolute beginners or children who are afraid of the water (coaches won't be able to spend time coaxing children into the pool), and one-on-one moments with instructors will be limited by the group nature of the program.

We have a new Shark Pups Head Coach - Eric Mongerson! Coach Eric is a swim instructor at Dynamo and Georgia Tech - read more of his bio here.

Registration:

  • opens 5/25 at noon

  • Swimmers will register for and attend a specific session(s) and a specific time group (maximum 8 swimmers per group).

  • Register early to get your first choice!

  • Swimmers can register for more than one session.

  • When groups are full, a wait list will be started through the online registration system (see below).

  • Swimmers do not need to be a member of the Garden Hills pool in order to participate.

Fees:

  • $60 per session per swimmer

Wait List:

If you would like to join the wait list, please register as usual for the group(s) you would like.  Your name will be added to the wait list in the order in which you register.  Payment information will be collected, but your card will not be charged until you are placed an opening.  You may register for the wait list for more than one group and we recommend doing so for any time group you would be willing to accept in order to increase your chances of an opening (your card will only be charged for the groups in which you are placed, and you will not be placed in more than one group per session).  If you register for the wait list and would later like your name removed (which you may do without penalty at any time before being placed in an opening), please email your request to coolsharks@gardenhillspool.com.  Once your child has been placed in an opening and your card has been charged, you will be subject to the refund policy below.

Refunds:

Because each session is so short, we will not be able to fill spots if a swimmer withdraws after a session begins. Therefore we will not be able to offer refunds if your swimmer voluntarily withdraws after the start of the session.

  • Partial refunds of $50 will be given until 7 days before the start of the session.

  • Partial refunds of $50 will be given 1-6 days before the start of the session if we are able to move a swimmer from the waitlist into your spot.

  • Partial refunds of $50 will be given to any swimmer who is placed into an open spot from the wait list but later declines that spot (subject to the conditions above).

  • Full refunds will be given to any swimmer who is determined by the coach to not yet be ready for the program.

  • No refunds for voluntary withdrawal will be given after the start of a session.
