The 2019 ASA Championship Divisional Meet will be held Thursday June 27 at 9:00 am at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Warm-ups start at 7:30 am. The meet should end around 12:30, with 6 & unders ending around 10:00-10:30.
This is your chance to swim in an Olympic pool! And see your name up on the big scoreboard! The Championship meet is open to ALL swimmers regardless of times. ALL Cool Sharks are encouraged to attend! We would love to have as many swimmers as possible help our team bring home a trophy again! This is a team effort - everyone contributes! We will be going for the team spirit award too so come prepared for lots of fun and excitement!
Here is a link to the ASA Championships website: http://atlantaswimming.com/swim-leagues/atlanta-swim-association-home/championship/. We are in Session 3. Entry lists, psych sheets, and results will be posted here, as well as other meet information (we will email most of this information out to the team as well).
NEW THIS YEAR - there are no entry fees for this meet! Meet entry fees were included with registration for all swimmers! You will sign up for this meet the same way you sign up for our regular meets (through the portal). All swimmers are allowed to swim a maximum of two individual events. Please select two events for your swimmer when signing up. Unlike a regular meet, entries for this meet are based entirely on swimmer choice. The coaches will choose the relay teams based on best times. The sign-up deadline for this meet is Thursday 6/20 at noon. Late entries will be available after the deadline on a lane availability basis for $30 per event (that's $60 for 2 events for the meet) per ASA. Late entries will not be placed on a relay team. Don't miss the deadline!
Finals are Saturday June 29. The 10 & Under session starts at 11:00 am (warm-up at 9:45 am). The 11 & Over session starts at 4:00 pm (warm-up at 2:45 pm).
Top 40 (10 & under) individual swimmers, top 30 (11 & over) individual swimmers, and top 10 relays (A relay only) for each age group and event based on all combined sessions will be asked to return to the finals on Saturday June 30. Results will be updated after each divisional session and posted on the championship website (link above). This is where you can find out if your swimmer has qualified for finals. Our coaches will also email this information out to our team. Remember, in order to qualify for finals, top times are taken from ALL divisional sessions combined, not just the division we swim with on Thursday.
If your swimmer will NOT be available to return for finals on Saturday, please let us know BEFORE the Divisional session. This is very important. All swimmers not returning for finals must be properly scratched (by the coaches) through ASA on the day of our divisional session. If we do not follow this procedure and more than 10% of our swimmers scratch (don't return) we will forfeit all of our points for the meet (and new this year swimmers will be subject to a fine of $10 for each event missed). This almost happened a couple of years ago. Please be considerate of the team and let us know your plans in advance!
The top 30 finishers for each divisional session will receive ribbons. The top 10 finishers in the finals session will receive medals, all other places at finals will receive ribbons. Meet t-shirts and swim gear will be available for purchase from ASA at the meet.
IMPORTANT - Only competitors and authorized meet volunteers and coaches are allowed on the pool deck. Parents without volunteer passes plus all other spectators (including siblings) need to remain in the spectator seating area in the stands. ASA enforces this rule very strictly.
PARKING INFO - Parking is a little different this year. Only prepaid parking will be allowed in the parking lots near the pool - the deck adjacent to the Campus Recreation Center (Lot W10) and the Student Center Lot (Lot W2) across the street. If you do not get reserved parking you will have to park at the State Street (Lot W23) lot which is further away from the facility. To purchase prepaid parking go to https://gatech.parkmobile.io/. We strongly advise you to carpool and allow plenty of time for parking. Be sure you select the correct day (Day 2 is Thursday, Day 4 is Saturday), no one will need an All Day pass. The cost for the advance passes is $12.00 .If you do not prepay for parking you will need cash to park, the cost is $15 at the gate. A map of the parking areas can be found here. There will also be signs around the venue that will point you in the direction of the lots for the meet. This is also a great meet to just take an uber!!!
MEET APPAREL - If you would like to purchase souvenir meet t-shirts and hoodies, they will be on sale at the meet or you can order online in advance at https://store.finedesigns.com/southerngreatlakes/2019-asa-championships.html. Note that all items come with the championship logo on the front, but you can customize with personalization on the back for an additional fee.
Here are last years' results, if you need help choosing events for your swimmers! Remember, it is often possible to place higher in events which are less popular (long free, IM, fly) but that officials DQ very strictly at this meet so be sure your child's breast and fly are legal before signing up for those strokes. We will be working on this the last week of practice (and it's also a great time for a quick private lesson!). Please ask the coaches if you are unsure.
